Perplexity is now citing my accounting firm β€” what changed

Six weeks ago I registered my accounting firm on AI Verified. This week I noticed Perplexity is citing us in responses to "accounting firms for small businesses in [city]". Here's the full picture of what I did: **Week 1:** AI Verified Silver tier (domain verification complete) **Week 2:** Added Rank Math schema to all service pages (AccountingService type) **Week 3:** Updated Google Business Profile with complete service list and business description **Week 4:** Published 3 FAQ-format blog posts answering common accounting questions **Week 5:** Added FAQPage schema to the blog posts **Week 6:** First Perplexity citation observed **The citation context:** Someone asked "what accounting services do small businesses in [city] need?" and Perplexity cited one of my FAQ blog posts as a source. **What I think made the difference:** The FAQ blog posts with FAQPage schema. Perplexity's retrieval system seems to strongly favour content that directly answers questions in a structured format. The AI Verified registration is the foundation, but the content strategy is what drives the actual citations.

The FAQ blog post strategy is consistently the fastest path to Perplexity citations. The retrieval system is optimised for question-answer content.

Did you see any increase in website traffic from the Perplexity citations?

Small but measurable. About 12 additional sessions per week from Perplexity referrals. Not huge, but it's qualified traffic β€” people who were already researching accounting services.

The 6-week timeline is consistent with what we see. The combination of AI Verified + schema + FAQ content is the most reliable path to AI citations.
