The badge is not a ranking signal — stop treating it like one

We see this framing occasionally in discussions about AI Verified: "I added the badge, now I'll rank better in AI search." That's not how it works, and we'd rather say so clearly than let the misconception spread. The badge is a trust signal for human visitors. It links to your verification page, which is machine-readable and crawlable. The machine-readable verification page is the signal for AI systems — not the badge itself. Adding the badge without completing domain verification is like putting a "certified" sticker on your window without getting the certification. The sticker is visible to humans. The certification is what the auditors check. If you want AI systems to treat your identity record as authoritative, the path is: complete domain verification, add Organisation schema with your AI Verified hash as an identifier, and link to your verification page. The badge is the visible output of that work, not the cause of it.
